Tainan City Symphony Orchestra 2026 Autumn Concert: A Russian Symphonic Night with Steven Lin
In a flagship production for the 2026 Autumn Season, the Tainan City Symphony Orchestra (TSO) joins forces with internationally renowned pianist Steven Lin to present South Taiwan’s music lovers with two Russian symphonic masterpieces. Together, they will weave an auditory feast that blends a pianistic storm with vivid, exotic orchestral colors.

A Pianistic Storm: Tchaikovsky's Masterpiece
The first half of the concert opens with Steven Lin taking center stage to perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor. Renowned for its sweeping, majestic introduction interwoven with French horns and resounding piano chords, this concerto is an absolute cornerstone of the repertoire.

A Silver Medalist of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, Lin also holds the Jury Chairman’s Discretionary Award from the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the First Prize from the Concert Artists Guild Competition. Praised by The New York Times for his "delicately nuanced and rich in dynamic shading" touch, Lin effortlessly transitions between fierce playfulness and deep contemplation. His flawless virtuosity and fiery, agile interplay with the orchestra will bring Tchaikovsky’s proudly romantic and passionate Russian spirit vividly to life.

Exotic Colors: Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade
In the second half, the orchestra dedicates itself to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite, Scheherazade. As a true master of orchestral color, the composer drew inspiration from One Thousand and One Nights, utilizing unparalleled orchestration techniques to layer a mysterious, exotic allure. A captivating solo violin personifies the storytelling Sultana Scheherazade, weaving through wave-like melodies to transport the audience from the bustling bazaars of Baghdad to a thrilling maritime voyage across perilous seas. This spellbinding journey will push the concert’s dazzling colors to an absolute climax.

From the passionate clash of piano keys to brilliant symphonic colors, we cordially invite you into the concert hall to witness this radiant dreamscape—a true exchange of sparks and souls.
