2024 TNAF- The Faintest Voice? by Tjimur Dance Theatre
2024 TNAF- The Faintest Voice? by Tjimur Dance Theatre

Ten years since Tjimur Dance Theatre artistic director Ljuzem Madiljin created her first piece,“The Faintest Voice? ” is an interpretation of the life experiences of social minorities and a reflection on their oppression as a result of the power structure.

This piece has the greatest number of dancers Tjimur has ever worked with, and we have collaborated with reputed Paiwan vocalist Utjung Tjakivalid, creating sparks with mainstream elements.

Different from conventional performances, the innovative visual and sound design creates an immersive atmosphere that causes the audience to focus on the inner feelings of the performers.

It has been ten years since Tjimur Dance Theatre artistic director Ljuzem Madiljin created her first piece,“qai~i”, which was nominated for the 13th Taishin Arts Award. Recently, the Tainan Arts Festival invited her to craft an all-new piece,“The Faintest Voice? ”, which comes from the long-term oppression experienced by such disadvantaged groups as Indigenous people, women, and those of the LGBTQ+ community. Tjimur Dance Theatre’s unique rhythm and singing present the true colors of fringe groups, their resilient spirits, and their desire for freedom and equality. The audience will be led to unavoidably see reality as it is, challenging the current state of society and causing serious reflection.

Reputed Paiwan vocalist Utjung Tjakivalid designed the music and performs in“The Faintest Voice? ”alongside Tjimur Dance Theatre’s dancers and young people from the community of Timur in presenting the different looks and thoughts of people from minority groups, producing a result that is highly vivid and rich with the colors of life. With the special effects, the piece breaks free from the serious framework of conventional theater to create an immersive environment and trigger audiences to reflect on the diversity in society and tolerance.

“The Faintest Voice? ”is not just a performance but a challenge to the existing power structure with each step in the piece and a probe into human nature with each differing tempo. Through our dance, we invite the audience to stop avoiding these social issues and face them head-on.
